What is Xeomin—is it the same as Botox?
XEOMIN is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults for a temporary period of time.
This is the first FDA-approved treatment that is double filtered to remove unnecessary proteins. Other neurotoxins such as BOTOX include the active component plus other proteins that aren’t necessary for smoothing frown lines. XEOMIN isolates the active component, leaving only what you need, treatment after treatment.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
PRP therapies are designed to enhance the body’s ability to heal itself by introducing a concentrated dose of the one’s own natural healing components to facilitate the repair of injured tissues. PRP or platelet derived growth factors utilizes platelets, are cells within the bloodstream that store and release growth factors and play a pivotal role in the body’s inflammatory response and in tissue healing. These growth factors help control cell communication and influence cellular growth.
After the patient’s blood is drawn, it is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other cells (including the white blood cells). This process concentrates the platelets, creating a rich environment of growth factors which stimulate and enhance the body’s own healing process. This serum, called PRP, is then re-injected at the patient’s site of injury. This treatment is especially beneficial in areas of limited blood supply such as tendons and ligaments.
